What Free2Carry is

Free2Carry is a public record of how businesses and candidates have acted on the Second Amendment, assembled from sourced, dated actions: corporate policies, donations, payment decisions, public statements, lobbying filings. Every entry names what happened, when, and where we found it.

Alongside that record, users may post reviews about how a business treated them. Reviews are opinion. Once a business has enough of them, they are averaged into a Consumer Grade, published beside the record grade. The two are computed separately and never averaged together: a review can never move the record grade, and a sourced action never moves the Consumer Grade.

Grades are an assessment, not a fact about a company

A letter grade is our evaluation of the documented actions on a company’s record, produced by a published method. It is protected opinion based on disclosed facts, and it is exactly as good as the record beneath it, which is why every action carries its source, so you can check our work and reach your own conclusion.

A grade is not a statement that a company is well or badly run, that it broke a law, or that you should or should not do business with it. That is your call. Ours is only to show you what they did.

The record is incomplete. A company with no grade has not been researched, or has nothing recent enough to grade. It does not mean the company has a clean record, and we say so on the page rather than implying otherwise. See how grades work.

Carry law is information, not advice

Some pages on this site summarize firearm law by jurisdiction — whether a permit is needed, which permits a state recognizes, what is prohibited. Each answer names the statute it came from and the date a person last read it, so you can check it yourself. That is the whole design: we show our work because you should not take our word for it.

This is information, not legal advice. Free2Carry is not a law firm, nobody working on it is acting as your lawyer, and reading these pages does not create an attorney–client relationship. If you need advice about your own situation, ask a lawyer licensed in that state.

The consequence of getting this wrong is criminal, not commercial. That makes it different from the rest of the site, and it is why the carry pages ask you to confirm before you act rather than after. Confirm every answer with the issuing agency or the state’s own published materials before you carry there.

What these pages do not cover. They describe state law. They do not tell you about federal law, county or municipal ordinances, rules on tribal land, or the restrictions that apply on federal property such as post offices, military installations and many national parks. They do not cover the conditions attached to your own permit, and they do not override a private property owner’s decision. A page that says a state permits something is not saying every place within that state does.

Every answer is dated, and law changes between checks. A date on an answer is a record of what we read then. It is not a promise about today. Where an answer has gone stale we say so on the page, but a legislature can act faster than we can read, and the gap between the two is yours to close before you rely on it.

Some answers are marked unverified, and those marks are not decoration. Where we read a secondary source rather than the statute, or where a question is genuinely unresolved, the page says so beside that answer. Read those labels. An answer we have flagged as unconfirmed is one we are telling you not to rely on.

Your account

You need an account only to post. You must be 18 or older, give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and take responsibility for what happens under your account. One person, one account. Do not create accounts to make a view look more popular than it is.

What you may post

Reviews

Write about your own experience with that business. First-hand, honest, and about how they treated you. Do not write a review for a business you have never dealt with, do not write about a competitor, and do not accept anything in exchange for a review. Your review is published under your display name and counts toward that business’s Consumer Grade.

Evidence

An evidence submission must name a specific thing a company did, on a date, with a link to the source that shows it. Reporting about an action is acceptable; a rumor is not. Anything without a working source stays in the queue and never reaches the record grade.

Never, in either

• Anything you know to be false, or that you have not actually checked.
• A home address, phone number, workplace or other private detail about any individual, including a company’s employees. Executives are covered in their public capacity only.
• Threats, incitement to violence, calls to damage property, or harassment of a business, its staff or another user.
• Slurs, or attacks on someone’s race, religion, sex, orientation or disability.
• Content that infringes someone’s copyright or breaches a confidentiality duty.
• Spam, advertising, or anything posted by an automated tool.

This site exists so people can decide where to spend their own money. It does not exist to organize pressure against anyone. Deciding not to shop somewhere is your right; going after a company’s staff is not, and we will remove it and close the account.

What we may do with what you post

You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display and distribute it as part of the site, including in excerpts and previews. If you delete it, that license ends for future use.

We may edit for length or formatting, decline to publish, or remove anything at any time, including a review we cannot square with the record, or a submission whose source does not support it. Verified actions that have entered the record are corrected under the Corrections Policy, not silently deleted.

If this is your business

You can claim your listing and reply publicly to reviews. If something on your record is wrong, the Corrections Policy sets out exactly what to send and what we will do, and we will fix a genuine error, quickly and without argument.

What we will not do is remove an accurate, sourced entry because you would rather it were not there. The answer to a record you dislike is the reply we will publish beside it.

Using the site itself

Do not:

• Scrape, crawl or bulk-download the record, or copy substantial parts of it to build a competing database or to resell it. Reasonable quotation with a link back is welcome.
• Try to break, overload or gain unauthorized access to any part of the service.
• Use the site to build a profile of any individual, or to work out who submitted something.
• Strip the source link from an entry, or republish the record in a way that separates a claim from the evidence behind it.

Other people’s content and links

Source links point to sites we do not control. We link to them so you can verify a claim, not because we endorse them, and we are not responsible for what they say or do. Reviews are the views of the people who wrote them.

No warranty

The site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the record is complete, current or error-free, that a listing is accurate, that any summary of law is accurate, complete or current, or that the site will be uninterrupted. Business listings come from third-party data and will contain closed locations and wrong details.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Free2Carry and anyone working on it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the site, including any decision you make on the basis of a grade, a record, or a summary of law.

That last one is worth stating plainly rather than leaving inside a list of commercial harms, because it is the one that could actually hurt someone: we are not liable for any arrest, prosecution, fine, forfeiture, injury or other loss arising from a decision to carry a firearm, or to travel with one, that was made on the basis of anything published here. The carry pages tell you to confirm with the state first. That instruction is the product, not a formality.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to one hundred US dollars. The site is free; that is the bargain.

Your responsibility for what you post

If someone brings a claim against us because of something you posted, you agree to cover our reasonable costs in dealing with it. This does not apply to anything we published on our own initiative, including the graded record itself.

Suspension

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and remove its content. If you think we got that wrong, email 2a@free2carry.com and a person will look at it.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and we will flag a material change on the site rather than editing quietly. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located there.
